Training programmes
ICIQ Summer Fellowships
The ICIQ Summer Fellowships Programme is an excellent opportunity to learn, work and live in a challenging environment of cutting-edge research under the supervision of distinguished scientists.
Outstanding undergraduate students with a background in Chemistry or related studies make the most of their Summer holidays by working in one of ICIQ’s research groups during the months of July, August and September. This year 2015, ten candidates from different countries were awarded with this paid internship. They had the opportunity to carry out research projects in several groups at the centre and of course, they enjoyed a full ICIQ experience!
The ICIQ Summer Fellowships Programme is sponsored by Obra Social “la Caixa”.
Postdoctoral stays at ICIQ
ICIQ aims to attract highly talented scientists seeking advanced research training and career development opportunities in a competitive and international environment. Postdoctoral researchers at ICIQ have the opportunity to lead research projects under the mentoring of an internationally renowned Group Leader in a stimulating and multidisciplinary scientific environment. Moreover, each postdoctoral researcher mentors at least one graduate student throughout their research career at the Institute. We believe in empowering postdoctoral researchers and promoting their leadership skills.
Postdoctoral recruitment programmes:
ICIQ-International PostDoctoral Mobility Programme
The ICIQ International Postdoctoral Mobility Programme (ICIQ-IPMP) in 2015 offered 21 postdoctoral positions. This programme is partially funded by the Marie Curie Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programme (COFUND) action of the European Commission and the Severo Ochoa Award of Excellence from the Spanish Government. The ICIQ-IPMP aims to set up a training programme addressed to highly talented and motivated experienced researchers to give them the opportunity to develop their research career at the Institute.
CELLEX- ICIQ Postdoctoral Programme on High Throughput Experimentation for the discovery and optimization of catalytic processes
Nine postdoctoral researchers have been working at ICIQ in research projects that include an intensive use of High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) methods and techniques. The researchers carried out their research in the following groups: Melchiorre, Martin, Kleij, Pericàs, Muñiz, Echavarren, Vidal, Shafir and the CSOL unit.
SO-ICIQ International Graduate Student Programme
The ICIQ International Graduate Student Programme is at the core of our commitment to education. We foster graduate students in their path to imagining, designing and executing a research project under the supervision and mentoring of an ICIQ Group Leader. The programme targets highly qualified and talented graduate students with an enthusiastic interest in chemistry research and it has been successful in attracting students from all over the world.
They work in creative research projects related to ICIQ’s research areas: Catalysis and Renewable energies. Throughout their stage at ICIQ, students make the most of an excellent team of researchers and highly specialised technicians in ICIQ’s cutting-edge core facilities.
Other key aspects of the ICIQ International Graduate Student Programme are opportunities for short stays in renowned international research institutions, weekly seminars by leading scientists at the forefront of chemical research, as well as complementary training designed to ensure a successful career in a variety of areas, including hands-on training in the use of state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation, IP management, entrepreneurship, knowledge and technology transfer and communication skills.
The programme ultimately leads to a PhD degree. In partnership with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) we offer the PhD programmes “Chemical Science and Technology” and “Technologies for Nanosystems, Bioengineering and Energy.” Students enrolled in these programmes can apply for the International or European Mention of their doctoral degree.
Master in Synthesis, Catalysis and Molecular Design
The ICIQ/URV Master in Synthesis, Catalysis and Molecular Design provides scientific training in the design of new methods of synthesis, development of catalysts, computational design and management of environmentally friendly chemical processes. The Master also focuses on providing the skills needed to address research and development tasks and innovative activities in the industry.
In the 2014-2015 academic year six ICIQ students were awarded with an ICIQ’s Master scholarship to undertake master studies. Six of these students chose ICIQ to follow their doctoral studies.
